A practical, whole-body approach to pain, stress, and function
When most people search for “holistic medicine,” they’re looking for care that treats more than just one symptom. They want someone to look at how their pain, stress, movement, sleep, and health all fit together.
At Big Easy Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine in Metairie, “holistic” has a clear meaning. We look at how your muscles, joints, nerves, nervous system, and lifestyle are working together. We then use acupuncture, hands-on work, accountability coaching, and herbal support to help your body and mind function better as a whole.
What Holistic Medicine Means at Big Easy Acupuncture
Here at big easy acupuncture we look the whole body in these ways:
Structure
How you move, your strength, and where tension is held. This leads to which muscles are weak, overworking, or inhibited.
Nerve Pathways
Where nerve irritation, compression, or poor signaling might be affecting strength, sensation, or pain. Acupuncture also helps calm the nervous system to help people feel more relaxed.
Systems
Sleep, stress, digestion, and energy—all of which affect how you heal
Your life
Work demands, activity levels, past injuries, and what you need your body to do day to day
Instead of chasing single symptoms, we look for patterns across all of these areas.
How We Assess Your Body
Before we decide on treatment, we start by testing how your body is moving and functioning.
Mobility testing helps us see:
- which joints are stiff or restricted
- which positions increase or reduce symptoms
- how your body compensates when something isn’t working well
Strength and activation testing helps us see:
- which muscles are weak, inhibited, not firing, or “offline”
- which muscles are doing too much to make up for others
- how well your nervous system is supporting movement
Lifestyle discussion
- underlying health conditions
- sleep patterns and energy levels
- appetite and digestion
- body temperature sensations and sweating
- bathroom habits
- diet, exercise, and load tolerance
- accountability coaching and realistic goals
These pieces give us a map of where your system is underperforming and what needs to change for you to move, feel, and function better.
How Acupuncture Fits Into Holistic Care
Modern research shows that acupuncture provides care by:
Releasing natural painkillers
Stimulates endorphins and other neurotransmitters from your own body that reduce pain signals.
Calming the nervous system
Helps shift the body out of “fight or flight” so muscles and nerves can relax.
Improving blood flow
Increases circulation to tight or injured areas, bringing oxygen and nutrients for healing.
Reducing inflammation
Modulates inflammatory pathways that contribute to swelling and pain of local and surrounding areas.
Resetting muscle and nerve patterns
Especially when combined with electroacupuncture and targeted motor point work.
We often pair acupuncture with manual bodywork, corrective strategies, or herbal support depending on what your system needs most.
Where Herbal Medicine and Lifestyle Fit In
Herbal formulas may be used to help with pain, inflammation, sleep, digestion, recovery, energy, and emotional stress. Each formula is chosen based on what your body needs at that time and can be adjusted from week to week.
We also discuss realistic lifestyle choices related to sleep, diet, stress, and pacing to support your progress without overwhelming you.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments depends on:
- Length of your issue
- Condition being treated
- Acute or chronic condition
- Individual response to treatment
- Treatment goals
- Individual’s health, sleep, and stress levels
Acute issues (more recent problems) may respond within 1–5 visits
Chronic issues often start with 2 visits per week for 2–3 weeks, then space out as things stabilize
Maintenance care is optional and used by some patients to help prevent flare-ups or maintain an active lifestyle.
A Simple Way to Understand Our Process
Care in this clinic tends to follow three stages.
Relief focuses on calming pain, tension, irritation, stress, or internal issues
Correction works on restoring movement, strength, structural balance, and calm
Maintenance helps people keep their progress, relax, and avoid flare-ups when needed.
