Functional Mobility & Strength Testing
Movement Metrics at Big Easy Acupuncture | Metairie, LA
Many treatments focus only on where pain is located. At Big Easy Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine, we focus on how your body is functioning.
Pain often develops when joints lose mobility or when certain muscles stop supporting movement the way they should. Over time, other muscles begin to compensate. This can lead to irritation, weakness, and recurring injuries.
These changes often show up during normal activities such as reaching overhead, lifting objects, walking, exercising, or sitting at a desk for long periods of time.
To understand what is happening in your body, we measure functional mobility and strength.
Why Movement & Strength Metrics Matter
Mobility and strength testing provide objective information about how your body is functioning.
Instead of relying only on symptoms, we measure where movement or strength falls outside normal ranges. These metrics help guide treatment and allow us to track changes over time.
As mobility improves and inhibited muscles begin activating again, patients often notice improvements in pain, movement confidence, and daily function.
What We Measure
During your visit, we evaluate several movement metrics.
Range of Motion
We assess how joints move compared to ideal mobility standards.
Restricted motion can place additional stress on surrounding muscles and nerves.
Muscle Strength and Activation
Functional muscle testing helps identify muscles that are:
- weak
- inhibited
- slow to activate
- overcompensating for other areas
These patterns often contribute to pain, instability, or recurring injury.
Movement Control
We also look at how muscles coordinate during movement.
During testing, we guide the body through simple movements and muscle tests to see how joints and muscles respond and where compensation patterns appear.
Poor coordination between muscle groups can create strain on joints and surrounding tissues.
What is Exstore?
The EXSTORE system, created by Dr. Anthony Lombardi, is a proven roadmap for testing and treating dysfunctional muscles.
- Examine – “Exstore” assessment involves functional muscle testing similar to those performed by a orthopedic physician or physical therapist. This is important to identify which muscles are dysfunctional or inhibited, thus allowing us to quickly start your process of recovery in the most efficient way possible.
- Restore – “Exstore” examines multiple muscles involved in joint movement & stability, the next steps involve using motor points and electro-acupuncture to quickly restore movement and function. Increases in function and mobility aids in recovery, meaning you have less pain, less medication, improved sleep, & significant improvement in your daily activity.
